Welcome to the Fall 2023 HWY 62 Open Studio Art Tours Registration.
Sponsored by the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council (MBCAC) and now in its 22nd year, the HWY 62 Open Studio Art Tours (Art Tours) is happening October 7/8, 14/15, & 21/22. This is an opportunity for MBCAC members to sharing their artistic creations with visitors from all over the region and beyond.
Due to the increased cost of printing the catalogs and studio signs we have raised the registration fee to cover production costs.
PLEASE NOTE:
You must upload your promotional images when you register. Your registration cannot be submitted without your images. CLICK HERE TO REVIEW IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
Do not start the application without having your images ready to upload. If you need the services of a professional photographer to meet the image requirements you can email Rose Cefalu at rcefalu@mac.com to reserve a time to have three of your artworks photographed at her studio in downtown Joshua Tree on Monday March 6, 4pm-9pm and Sunday March 26 3-7pm. Fee is $30 cash (preferred) or check paid directly to our beloved photographer Rose Cefalu at your appointment time. You can also email arttours@mbcac.org and we can connect you with additional photographers in the area.
This year we have reduced the artist statement to 50 words. Please have your statement prepared before starting the registration process. With over 150 artists, we agreed that less is more on the artist statements, and these should not attempt to be complete bios, but rather a pithy enticement to encourage readers to visit your studio. And make your website available for a deeper dive into you as an artist and your work. Visit https://wordcounter.net to easily calculate your total words used.

Once you start, you cannot save your progress and resume later. After your registration is submitted, it cannot be changed, so please make sure all information is correct. Review the sample registration form HERE
Our Participation Conditions have been updated to reflect this year’s changes, many outlined below, so please read them before registering. If you have any questions email arttours@mbcac.org
This year, the Fall 2023 Art Tours will take place over three weekends, October 7/8, 14/15, & 21/22, with official hours of 10 am - 5 pm each day. Artists are welcome to participate in any or all of the three weekends and must commit to being open 10am - 5pm each date.
Included with your Art Tours registration fee:
- Your artwork and profile displayed in our catalog, website and app with an interactive/detailed map with street and studio designations for visitors to find you.
- Media and press coverage (digital, print, and radio) for the Art Tours (covering local and regional areas).
- Promotion of every artist on our social media streams (Instagram and Facebook)
- Signage directing visitors to your studio during Art Tours weekends and 10 free copies of the Art Tours Catalog.
- FREE participation in the Collective Show at Joshua Tree Art Gallery (JTAG), one of the best ways visitors can preview artwork by artists choosing to enter. MBCAC will collect 15% commission on work sold during the Collective Show to support our programming.
- FREE workshops to help artists promote and prepare for Art Tours. (Dates/times TBD.)
- Optional access to photography services for artwork (additional fee applies).
- Optional installment plan for registration fees.
Please be aware of the following:
- You must be a current MBCAC member to register and your membership must remain update throughout October 2023. You can sign up, renew or check your membership status HERE.
- Be a full or part-time resident of the Morongo Basin.
- A separate application is required for each individual artist participating as part of a shared studio.
- There is a limit of five (5) registered artists at any one location, and the location must be the primary studio of the host who is working on there art in the space through the year.
- No retail or gallery spaces can participate as an Art Tours stop. You can advertise your business in our catalog and support the MBCAC by purchasing an ad. Learn more HERE.
- You can pay your registration fee via check or cash if necessary. Select "Invoice Me" on the payment screen and an invoice will be emailed to you with further instructions.
